One day last January, my friends and
I decided to go camping in the desert.
Perhaps I should explain: most of my
country is desert, with only a few wild
goats as residents – and too hot for
camping in the summer.
We drove about 30 kilometres from the
capital, Manama – where we live – to
the Sakhir Desert. There, we set up our
camp. At first, it was difficult to put up
the tents, but we finally managed to do
it. After that, we had a light lunch, and
then relaxed until dinner.
After dinner, we sat outside in the bright
moonlight, and talked about many
different things. In the end, we started
to talk about scary things that had
happened to us. One of my friends was
in the middle of telling us a very scary
story when suddenly we saw something
moving in the distance. We couldn’t see
clearly what it was – but it was coming
slowly towards us! We were really
frightened! ‘What should we do next?’
we thought.
